Zhou Yun was born and raised in Shanghai, China. She received her bachelor degree in 2009 and later received her master degree in 2011. Her academic work has been focused mainly on religious practice and identities of overseas Chinese Christians in Chiba, Japan. Yun commenced her PhD at ANU in March 2014 under the supervision of Dr Benjamin Penny. Yun’s research will examine the history of Christianity in Shanghai from middle 19th century to middle 20th-century. In particular, the research will focus on the developments in the history of Chinese Protestantism from a more detailed and local perspective than has ever been possible before. Also special attention will be given to links between Shanghai and Nagasaki Christians and missions
