Bio

My research addresses the causes of interstate conflict with an empirical focus on the Asia-Pacific/Indo-Pacific. This engages me with China in many ways. First, as one project examines the sources of variation in the US-Australia alliance, I am interested in how current and ongoing Sino-U.S. geostrategic competition influences regional stability and its implications for Australia. Second, my interest in nuclear weapons proliferation generates an interest in China's support of North Korea and its nuclear weapons program as well as China's own nuclear modernisation program. Third, my interest in the role of leaders in international politics generates an interest in Xi Jinping, his consolidation of power in China and his influence on Chinese foreign policy.
