Bio
Dr Kai Zhang received her PhD from the University of Sydney in 2020. Her thesis examines how changes in leader-villager power relationship have impacted village public administration in post-reform China. She is currently working with the Modern Chinese Language Program at the School of Culture, History and Language. She is the co-convenor of the “Chinese Culture and Society” Reading Group at CIW and organises the bi-monthly Society and Policy Analysis seminar series. Her current research focuses on the community-level consequences of China’s recent rural development policies and in particular the Project System (xiangmuzhi 项目制).
