Bio

Jennifer Chang joined the Department of the Treasury in 2004 and has worked in the International Economy Division, the G-20 and APEC Secretariat and in the Domestic Economy Division. Jennifer commenced her PhD at ANU part time in March 2011 under the supervision of Dr Jane Golley, Associate Director, Australian Centre for China in the World. Jennifer embarked on a full time PhD in February 2012 upon being awarded the Sir Roland Wilson Foundation PhD Scholarship. Jennifer’s research will examine the dynamics of the Chinese labour market and link the findings to an analysis of China’s broader economic growth prospects. In particular, the research will focus on the fact that while China’s large-scale internal migration has been an important contributor to the country’s strong economic performance, as China’s population growth slows and the population ages, increasing rates of labour productivity will need to be facilitated by rising levels of education and skill in the labour force.
