[Postponed] Film Screening: GF*BF 女朋友。男朋友

Due to COVID-19, this film screening is postponed until further notice.

106mins, 2012 (M)
Directed by Yang Ya-che 楊雅喆

Girlfriend, Boyfriend is a coming-of-age drama set against three decades in Taiwan’s process of democratisation. In the mid-1980s, Aaron, Mabel and Liam are high school best friends, involved in anti-establishment politics and caught in an unconventional love triangle: Aaron likes Mabel, but she is in love with Liam, who has undeclared feelings for Aaron. As they come of age, their paths converge again in the student movement of 1990s Taipei and beyond, testing their relationship as it negotiates the questions left open following martial law. The director Yang Ya-Che has said has described the fusion of political, social and sexual empowerment as a symbol of the ‘freedom’ sought through the era’s personal and political struggles. Girlfriend, Boyfriend was director Yang Ya-Che’s debut feature, yet became the highest grossing film of 2011 and won the Audience Choice Award at the 49th Golden Horse Awards that year.

Registration opens two weeks prior to screening.
