Understanding the intercultural experiences of Chinese migrants to Australia (1980–1995)

This project aims to form a better understanding of the contemporary Chinese diaspora by focussing on the intercultural experiences of mainland Chinese migrants who settled in Australia between 1980–1995. Despite the importance of this wave of Chinese migrants to Australia in recent migration history, little has been written about their experience. Through collecting and analysing interviews and autobiographic writings, the project expects to generate new knowledge about the pressing needs of the Australian Chinese community, and develop strategies and resources targeted at improving mutual understanding between the Australian Chinese community and wider Australian society.
