Little Red Podcast

The Little Red Podcast, a cooperative project between the Australian National University's Graeme Smith and the University of Melbourne's Louisa Lim, is Australia's leading China-focused podcast. It provides a platform for emerging and established China scholars to share their research with the world. This grant will allow the podcast to continue to reach the standards that made it the 2018 Australian Podcast of the Year in the News and Current Affairs category. With a strong listener base in the USA, Australia and China, the podcast has been described by Journal of Asian Studies Editor Jeffrey Wasserstrom as "a leading vehicle for thoughtful commentary on China." The reach of the show extends beyond academia, with a loyal following among journalists and policymakers. The grant will allow the podcast to continue to employ a part-time researcher for each episode, and support the day-to-day costs of running a high-quality production, including transcription, Facebook boosting, and travel between Canberra and Melbourne. With support from China in the World, the Little Red Podcast will continue to bring listeners China from beyond the Beijing beltway.
