Chinese communities in Australian museums: Heritage making and historical interpretation

This seed funding aims to develop a partnership with Golden Dragon Museum in Bendigo, Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre in Ararat, Sovereign Hill and the Museum of Chinese Australian History in Melbourne for an ARC linkage grant application in 2022–23. The project expects to generate new insights into how Chinese cultural heritage is interpreted in local museums in Australia, and how wider Australian communities receive such narratives—particularly those pertaining to the contribution of Chinese communities to multicultural Australia. The expected practical outcomes include fieldwork in Victoria, a workshop at the ANU, and a joint ARC Grant application.
