Sean Kelly was until recently an Australian diplomat, representing Australia in Hanoi, Taipei, and Beijing, as Consul-General for Southern China in Guangzhou, and Consul-General for Southern India in Chennai. In Canberra, he has held a variety of sensitive policy positions in DFAT, including Director, Defence and Strategic Policy, Director, US Economic and Canada, and most recently Director, Critical Minerals Strategy Implementation. Sean holds a Master's degree in International Law from the Australian National University, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Strategic Studies from the ADF’s Joint Services Staff College and a First Class Honours degree in Modern Asian Studies from Griffith University.

Sean is particularly interested in the place of in geo-economics in China’s relations with the World and is researching critical minerals as a strategic vector in Indo-Pacific strategic equations.
