Emeritus Professor Geremie R. Barmé is an historian, cultural critic, filmmaker, media commentator, translator, editor and web-journal editor who works on Chinese cultural and intellectual history from the early modern period (1600s) to the present, as well as on Australia-China relations. He is Founding Director of the Australian Centre on China in the World in the ANU College of Asia & the Pacific, The Australian National University (ANU). For many years he edited the journal East Asian History and the e-Journal China Heritage Quarterly, as well as creating The China Story Project at ANU. He has written and edited many books and has produced both academic and non-academic writing and translations. He has worked on two acclaimed films and published two books in Chinese.
His upcoming book is an edited volume of essays by Pierre Ryckmans (Simon Leys) on universities, titled An Educated Man is Not a Pot. He is currently editor of China Heritage and co-founder, with John Minford, of The Wairarapa Academy for New Sinology.http://chinaheritage.net/
