Christopher Nailer is a Canberra-based poet and Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Research School of Management at the ANU. He started studying Chinese with Stephen Lee at Camberwell Grammar School in 1964 and continued at the University of Melbourne, completing a Master’s thesis on Qu Yuan in 1980. He worked as a teacher and translator of Chinese and Japanese through the 1980s. From 1993 until 1996 he worked on Asia business strategy with clients of IMA Asia in Sydney, and joined the Economist Group in Singapore as Regional Economist just in time for the Asian Financial Crisis, the Russian debt default and the dot.com bubble. From 2003 to 2018 he taught and researched entrepreneurship and business growth strategy at the ANU’s Research School of Management. He has published on Chinese business, infrastructure and the challenges of researching emerging markets. His bilingual collection The China Cabinet and other Poems, published by Ginninderra Press in 2019, reflects on 55 years of interactions with China.
