About the Conference

The conference is organised by the Australian Centre on China in the World (CIW) at The Australian National University (ANU) Canberra. It is the 24th Annual Meeting of the Chinese Economics Society Australia (formerly known as ACESA).

Topics

The organiser invites all papers addressing topics that relate to China's economic development, including global imbalances and domestic rebalancing; international trade, inward and outward FDI; capital flows and financial sector reforms; regional development; food security and agricultural development; rural-urban migration and urbanisation; poverty and income inequality; ageing and demographic change; pension, health care and social security systems; education and labour markets; and low-carbon and sustainable growth.

Keynote Speakers include:

  1. Xin Meng, Professor, ANU College of Business and Economics, The Australian National University
  2. Dennis Tao Yang, Professor, Chinese University of Hong Kong
  3. Wing Thye Woo, Professor, University of California, Davis
  4. Xiaobo Zhang, Senior Research Fellow, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Washington DC

Key Dates:

  • May 1: Conference registration opens
  • June 1: Conference registration closes
  • June 10: Full papers due

Please note that the deadline for abstract submissions has passed and new submissions are not being accepted.

PhD Prize: A prize of $300 will be awarded to the best PhD paper presented at the conference, to be determined by a Panel of CESA Council Members.

Special Offer: Conference participants will also be invited to attend the annual China Update, to be held on July 10, 2012, at a highly discounted price. Please see the China Update website for details of the 2011 event. Details regarding the 2012 Update due out in early 2012.

Fees cover conference attendance (1.5 days), two dinners (7 & 8 July), two lunches (8 & 9 July), three morning/afternoon teas (8 & 9 July), and conference materials.
